Today is June 1st, which can only mean that UBAM convention is less than a week away! Next Wednesday, I hop on a plane headed for Tulsa (well, 2 planes actually since there are no direct flights from Hartford). I am beyond excited to meet up with my teammates, meet some new friends, get inspired for my business, and learn from the best of the best. Did I also mention that Rory Vaden is our headlining guest speaker?! One of the biggest thing people have been in a panic over isn’t flights or hotels, but on what to pack for convention! Packing can be totally overwhelming (especially if you are a first timer, or a tired mom who always puts herself last).
No matter if you’re heading to UBAM convention, or one for another direct sales company, my guess is our packing list all looks pretty much the same. Are you excited yet about taking your business to the next level? My first time at convention last year was a game changer for me. I’m so excited that I need to get ready! Come check out what will be in my suitcase when I pack for convention this week, and check out the bottom of the page for a free printable you can use for a checklist while you get ready!
Professional Clothes
Depending on the dress code for your convention, you’ll want to pack appropriate clothes to wear. business casual is typically a good rule of thumb when heading to a professional conference. This might mean cropped pants and dress shirts, capris and a nice t-shirt, a casual dress or skirt. Sometimes teams get together to order team shirts, so don’t forget to pack yours if you have one! If you’re not sure exactly what to wear, chat with your upline or teammates for advice. I like to get a new stitch fix box before and let my stylist know what I’m looking for to get a refresh before I leave!
Awards Dress
The awards ceremony is a great excuse to dress up, even if you don’t plan to be on stage! A cocktail dress, with some pretty shoes & jewelry are perfect for the occasion. If you don’t normally keep dresses like that in your closet & don’t want to commit to buy, you can rent one! I use Rent the Runway to rent dresses frequently, and I’m always so happy with the results. I even rent jewelry to complete the look, and have it delivered right to the hotel. SO easy, and affordable, and one less thing to pack!
Comfy shoes
Even though you’ll spend a good chunk of time sitting, there is a lot of walking. Walking from the hotel to conference center, to different sessions, meals, etc. You’ll be busy & on the go, and having something comfortable on your feet will make things easier.
Loungewear
My favorite thing at the end of a long day in real clothes (not my at home mom clothes), is to change into my leggings and a comfy shirt ASAP. After the formal sessions and activities are over, you’ll probably want to be comfortable! Hanging out in hotel rooms with friends, networking, and brainstorming, drinking wine, having fun. I want to be comfortable for it, so I bring clothes that channel that feeling. These are on my mommy must-have list too, so you know I have plenty already!
Electronics & Chargers
This is a no brainer right? Since phones are pretty much glued to our side, I’m sure you won’t forget it, but don’t forget the accessories to go along. Not only your wall charger, but a portable charger so you can charge on the go between sessions. If you plan to take notes or do work for your business while you’re away, then don’t forget your laptop or tablet too!
Note-taking Supplies
Heading to a convention is a chance to learn. While you are there soaking it all in, taking notes is a great way to make sure you remember the important things you want to implement in your business. Maybe you’re a pen/paper girl like me, so you bring a notebook, folders, some pens, pencils and a highlighter. You might get super fancy with post it notes or notecards, different colored pens and more. Maybe you plan to take notes on a laptop or tablet. Just make sure you have a way to get those ideas down to review later.
Totebag
You’ll need something to carry around your notepads, pens, snacks, etc so don’t forget a big purse or tote bag! UBAM likes to gift us a pretty bag filled with new titles, but then you run the risk of confusing your bag with someone else. My tip? Bring your own tote bag , one with lots of pockets so you can easily access everything you need.
Snacks
Depending on lunch times, time zone differences, and the loudness of your tummy grumbles, you might want some snacks. Keeping a few granola or protein bars on hand, can help to keep you focused when you’re getting hungry. Another tip? Grab an apple or banana from the breakfeast buffet to enjoy later.
Sweater
No matter what time of year your conference is, or where you are going, bring a sweater. Likely the AC will be pumping, and you will be wearing clothes that match the weather outdoors. Bring a cardigan or sweater to tuck in your tote bag in case the AC gives you an extra chill. Bonus if you asked for it in your stitch fix box & have a stylish new one to bring along!
Extra suitcase or Room to Spare
If you’re with UBAM, I know you will be needing to make room for all the new titles and purchases you make at the More Store! Likely, any company’s convention is going to have swag you need to transport home, so make sure your suitcase isn’t packed too full on the way there. If you don’t mind the baggage fees or got hooked up with a Southwest flight, you could always check a second bag.
Makeup & Toiletries
I’m guessing you’ll at least want to shower (come on, a shower without kids outside the door is heaven, right?!). Sure, the hotel has little bottles to use, but it’s nice to have the regular products you use. Don’t forget things like face wash, moisturizer, eye cream, lotion, toothbrush & paste, hair products, deodorant, razors, and contacts or glasses. If you wear makeup normally or plan to wear a little for awards, make sure you bring your makeup bag along too!
Watch (in case your phone dies)
If you ignored the advice of a portable charger, you’ll want a way to keep on time for you sessions, lunch, plans to meet up with teammates and friends. Even if you keep it attached to your tote bag and not your wrist, have a watch as a back up!
Reusable Water Bottle
Water is provided in large dispensers to help keep you hydrated, but why use the disposable cups provided?! Use a reusable cup or water bottle to save the environment, and help with portability. Just think if everyone attending used their own water bottle how many cups we would save!
All this typing is making me think about everything I need to pack for convention! Curious about how you could be a part of our amazing book boss team? Check out the latest kit special here & let’s chat about the amazing opportunities that UBAM can offer! Here is the free printable checklist for what to pack for convention! I better get busy, see you there!
