Happy Easter everyone! I can’t believe that spring is finally here after a long long winter! You may have already seen what I’m putting in my easter baskets this year, and I wanted to make sure I had a chance to show off our adorable Easter art projects too! Since we were reading That’s Not my Chick, we decided to add some touchy-feely parts to our craft. We added some fluffy feather hair on our Easter chick! I hope you have as much making it as we did!
What You Need
- Construction paper in yellow, green & orange
- Orange & yellow paint
- Googly eyes
- Glue stick
- Clear glue
- Yellow feathers
Time for FUN
I started with some craft prep before bringing the kids to the counter for our easter art projects! Using 2 different size cups, I traced circles onto the yellow construction paper for the chick’s body and head. Then I cut an orange triangle for the nose. The most important prep step though is bringing your baby wipes to your work area so you can quickly clean off a wild child’s hand before they run around your house smearing it over the walls & furniture.
Use your green as the backdrop, and put the kids to work with the glue sticks! With a little modeling & guidance, they figured out where the glue was supposed to go on the yellow circles. I helped to get the edges, and then helped them to place the body and the head on the green backdrop. We used the glue stick again for the orange nose. I purposefully bought google eyes with sticky backs (no glue required = yay!!), so they had fun peeling them off the paper and placing them on the easter chick’s face.
Next up is painting! When using paint for handprint projects with babies & toddlers, here is my #1 piece of advice. Work with 1 color at a time, and 1 kid at a time. As soon as your handprint is made, IMMEDIATELY clean that hand with the baby wipes you were so clever to keep nearby. We used yellow to make sideways handprints for wings, and orange to make handprints for feet!
The last piece for our easter art projects was the fuzzy hair! I took a yellow feather & cut it up a bit. I put a drop of clear glue on the top of our easter chick’s head, and they put all the fluffy little feathers on top. We had minimal freak outs about glue on fingers and feathers being too scary to touch.
Let’s Read!
The That’s Not My collection is actually the first book to make me fall in love with Usborne Books & More. That’s Not my Chick is one of the newest additions! The bright colors with bold outlines are perfect for early vision with babies, and the thick durable pages are perfect for destructive babies and toddlers alike.
For toddlers, I love the repetitive text (easy for learning to read!), and finding the hidden mouse on each page. Of course my daughter has to kiss all the adorable chicks on every page too. The touchy-feely parts on each page make the book so interactive and fun as kids learn adjectives to describe parts of the chick too!
I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend, and enjoy some time with your Easter chicks too! This is the first of our easter art projects for the season, look for more soon! Still need a little more spring in your life? Get busy with a fun flower planting sensory bin & book pairing too!
