It is officially fall!! I am pretty sure fall is my son’s favorite season, even if he doesn’t realize it yet. Everything he is obsessed with happens in the fall. Apple picking, pumpkin patches, tractor rides and Halloween send him into a fit of excitement. We went apple picking last weekend and have a bag full of pick your own apples to make apple crisp, apple sauce, apple muffins, and apple art with! We made this same apple art for toddlers 2 years ago before I had this blog, and I decided it was a must for me to re-create it and share it with everyone! I love the minimal supplies, connection to our apple picking adventures, and of course our book pairing, Secrets of the Apple Tree! Get out your paint and get ready for fall with us with an apple stamping craft!
What You Need for Your Apple Stamping Craft Project
- White paper with a rough sketch of a tree
- 1 apple
- green, red & brown paint
- Paintbrush
Let’s Have Some FUN: Apple Art!
The prep for this craft project is SUPER easy!! Take 1 sheet of white paper & trace a general tree shape. Using this activity for a classroom to make apple art for toddlers or preschoolers and need a ton of copies? Draw in marker and photocopy! Then cut an apple in half, one half will be used for green paint & one for red.
We got cozy at our learning tower (We may be close to outgrowing it, but I’m holding on), and got ready to paint! First they used paint brushes and brown paint to create the trunk of the tree. Once that was finished, we moved on to green stamping for the tree leaves. They needed a little instruction to make sure paint covered the whole apple surface. Then I gave a little guidance on placement within the drawing on their paper.
Using the apple, let the kids make apple art with stamping that apple all over the tree. Once the tree shape is looking pretty full, it’s time to add the apples! Use the other apple half and cover it in red paint. Add a few apple stamps to make apples on the tree, and your project is complete! A simple apple craft for toddlers or preschoolers is complete!
Let’s Read our Apple Tree Book!
It’s no secret that I love Shine-A-Light books! These books are so interactive and fun! Using a flashlight, kids can discover hidden pictures behind the pages to explore a wide variety of non-fiction. I use them a lot with my book & craft pairings because they are SO much more fun than a basic picture book! You can check out more of my book & craft pairings featuring Shine-A-Light titles here:
- Construction Sensory Box
- Patriotic Noisemakers
- Snow Theme Sensory Box
- Beach Sensory Box
Since my son is obsessed with apple picking (for the past 2 years), this book has been a staple. While our apple stamping craft project was drying, we snuggled up with a flashlight to dive into the world of the apple tree, including all the wildlife that surrounds it and how apples grow. While you’re reading, grab an apple for a healthy snack too!!
Here are a few things we learned:
- Worms live underground near the roots of the tree where they are soaking up water from the rain!
- A moth can blend in with a tree trunk since it’s wings are the same color
- Apple seeds that drop to the ground can grow roots and eventually become a tree of it’s own!
