Here is the scenario in my house when it comes to attending kids birthday parties, I’m sure some of you are in the same place as me. The invitation comes in the mail, I add it to the calendar, RSVP, maybe even hang it up on the fridge. Then I conveniently forget about it until the day before or day of the party, leaving no time to rush to target, or place an amazon prime order. Being completely unprepared gave me the idea to get prepared with a stash of gifts, cards, and gift wrap in a kids birthday gift box. This allows me to go quickly from a state of panic (“that party is today?!?!?”), to prepared as I let my kids quickly help pick out the pieces and pull it all together minutes before party time.
My chaos and mom brain have made my kids birthday gift box an essential part of kid birthday party survival. I began this idea with all the amazing books I have on hand as a book lady, and grew it from there. Now we have a dedicated bin to contain all the pieces so there is even less running around in the minutes before we leave for the party. Let’s take a peek inside to see how you can create your very own kids birthday gift box.
Inside the Kids Birthday Gift Box: Gifts
You’ll need to start your box with a collection of gifts for the typical age range of parties you attend. These could come from sales you stock up on throughout the year, like Black Friday or prime day. As a book lady, I keep a constant stash of amazing books in my stash! Typically I keep a few shine-a-light books and dollar store flashlights on hand, a crowd favorite like All Better, magic painting or sticker books. You could include some favorite games, art supplies, or popular toys too.
Inside the Kids Birthday Gift Box: Gift Wrap
There is nothing worse that actually finding a present on hand, but then not having anything but an old Christmas gift bag to put it in. The Big Box of Giving contains 6 Gift Wrap Sets, 12 Greeting Cards, 6 Gift Bag Sets, matching gift tags, ribbon, and tissue paper. They are all different sizes to fit whatever you are planning to wrap up! All the papers and bags are gender neutral, and are the perfect addition to your kids birthday gift box to make sure you are always prepared. Don’t forget to add a roll of tape to your box too! Somehow, I can never find the roll of tape in our kitchen when I need it!
Inside the Kids Birthday Gift Box: Birthday Cards
My son is a HUGE fan of birthday cards. He will carry around his favorites throughout the house for months following the special occasion. Greeting cards at the store can be so expensive these days, ranging from $2-$6 per card! That’s why I always keep a Cards for a Cause Kids Birthday Card Box in my kids birthday gift box. This box has 30 different handcrafted and embellished cards for only $30! That means I get to spend $1 on each card, and have 30 different ones on hand to avoid me running out to the store last minute on the way to the birthday party. Since the average drug store card costs $4.50, you’ll save $105 over the course of 30 cards!
Let Your Kids Help!
A kids birthday gift box is a great way to teach your child about giving to others, and give them a little responsibility. You can have them help to pick out the initial gifts to stock the box with, or as parties for their friends happen, have them go to the box to pick out presents, cards and wrapping. Then, its as simple as helping them complete the gift wrap and writing their name on the card & you can be on the way to the party without stressing or running late because you have to stop at the store on the way to the party.
